Joy to the World

December 20, 2011

One of the best parts of the holidays is being able to curl up and watch Christmas movies.  Some of my very favorite movies are Christmas movies.  In fact, the largest genre of movies in my collection is Christmas movies.  Christmas movies tend to tackle large issues like faith and family with honesty and optimism.  For some reason, despite the many classics which I love, a more recent movie has become a favorite.  Alexis and I both feel that it is not Christmas now unless we’ve watched “The Family Stone”.  We have no explanation for this.  The movie is sad; very sad.  It was advertised as a slap-stick romantic comedy but resembles neither genre.  There are romances in it, but overall it is the story of a family having to deal with some very serious issues.  Alexis and I believe that perhaps we love it so much because it is so very honest and because the Stone family is somehow endearing.  We want to be a part of their family despite all their problems.  We love this movie so much that not only do we have to watch it once, but we have been known to have watch it several times during the Christmas season.

Other favorites include:

Miracle on 34th Street

The Santa Clause

Christmas in Connecticut

Its a Wonderful Life

White Christmas

Santa Claus

and many more…

What are your Christmas favorites?  Are you like Alexis and I and find that you need to include a Christmas film that perhaps makes no sense to you or others?
